Photo Exhibition

The Association marked its tenth anniversary with a photography exhibition entitled “Flight in Divided Germany: Photography from Berlin Refugee Centers, 1952-1990.” In addition to the establishment of the Marienfelde Refugee Center, the exhibition documented the living conditions in, and the public perceptions of, the refugee camps then spread across all of West Berlin. The exhibition was opened by Ingrid Stahmer. As of January 1989, Ingrid Stahmer served as Berlin State Senator for Health and Social Affairs; she had previously served for many years as a district city councillor charged with the care of refugees and emigrants from East Germany.
